Traveling Alone (& why you SHOULD do it)

If you’re reading this you’ll realize I am in what people in the United States (who watch the news) consider a “hot spot” right now. I landed in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic after a couple of fun issues with Delta. This is my third trip traveling alone. The first couple of them were stressful but I think it gets easier every time I do it and eventually I’ll be a professional at it.

The Pros: It’s pretty empowering to leave your own country and enter into another one- solo. There is a lot of planning that goes into it, little bumps in the road you have to figure out on your own and it really makes you learn to trust your gut about certain things. You literally get to do whatever you want and do not have to worry about what anyone else thinks, except the person in front of you on the airplane, you should probably worry about what they think as a common courtesy.

The Cons: it’s exhausting being on your game 24/7. It would be lovely to turn to someone and say “hey, watch my stuff while I run over there for a second.” However, you’re in a crowded airport with strangers. Being from New York, I wouldn’t trust anyone to watch my stuff that I didn’t know. It’s always good to have a backup plan in case your flight gets delayed, cancelled or my personal favorite: you don’t have the bank card you purchased the flight on and that’s what you need to get your boarding pass.

I absolutely love traveling alone and really think everyone should do it at least once.

My recommendations: I highly recommend an inflatable airplane pillow (I got mine off of amazon and love it!)

If there is one thing that you have to buy while traveling it’s this:

I always have so many plugs for my laptop, both my headphones, and two phone chargers so this really lets you keep everything organized (and it’s a great passport holder).

I always love hearing about people’s trips so feel free to reach out and ask me questions and tell me about your trips! As for my travels I’ll be in the Dominican Republic for the next month (really practicing my Spanish from high school!)
